Watercolour bouquet using stamps

Hi all! Do you love those watercolour floral bouquets and wished you could paint them, but like me, are terrible at it? I think it’s the lack of definition and looseness in the style that throws me off. Well than, today I’m really excited to show you how you can easily recreate that watercolour look without even knowing how to paint!

All you need are the gorgeous “Garden of Love Floral Bouquet” stamps from Crafters Companion, water reactive inks and watercolour markers. I use Spectrum Noir for both. Then decide on the composition and colours you want. For that, you can start with just typing in your web browser, “watercolour floral bouquet composition”, or go onto my dedicated Pinterest board here. Once you have an idea of the composition of your flowers, choose the colours you want. I created a little colour combi chart, on Spectrum Noir 300g watercolour paper, so that I could easily see the results when I mixed my Spectrum Noir Aqua markers together with the Spectrum Noir water reactive inks. The first colour written is the water reactive ink pads and the following colours are the Aqua markers. In the middle is the 2nd generation stamping of the colours on the left. This is great if you just want to create a hint of a flower behind another one.

Try doing it yourself. Just stamp your floral stamp onto an inkpad, then use the Aqua markers to colour the middle of the flower. Give a light spritz of water on your stamp and stamp it onto your watercolour pad. More water will give a looser look, less water, a more defined look. This is also the method I used to create the bouquet on my card.

Above is a little process video of how I created my card. I first did a layout with my stamps and took a pic of it so I would remember where everything should be stamped. I then stamped my flowers using the method I mentioned above. Next I masked the flowers and stamped in the leaves and any other florals I wanted around. To have botanicals behind my leaves, I also masked my leaves with post-its.

Once I finished all my watercolour stamping, I stamped in the sentiment from So Suzy stamps, don’t you just love the sentiment, with Spectrum Noir waterproof black ink.
